The Canterbury Tales Reflection

In The Pardoner’s Tale there were three men that were drinking in the tavern. They saw a coffin pass by on the way to it’s grave. They knew it was their friend and asked who killed him. The bar tender told them that death killed him. They want a search to find death. In the end they find gold and end up dying because they were greedy for the gold. So their search for death ended with them dying. This was very ironic.

The Wife of Bath’s Tale was the other story I read. There was a knight who broke the knights code by raping a young girl. He was sentenced to find out what women truly desire in life. He was given a year and 1 day to find out. He searched and finally the Wife of Bath agreed to tell him if he would pay her with a favor after he was free. The favor to marry her. He did not want to do so but put up his end of the bargain.

The moral of both stories was that greed is the root of all evil. Another big part was self same sovereignty. These are both still a big part in today’s society. We see that greed can change anyone. Greed comes mostly from people wanting a certain person in their life or money. They will do anything to get what they want even if it is an evil thing to do. We also see self same sovereignty in today’s society. Women still want to play as big a role as men do in society. This has been their goal from the beginning, but they have not been able to do so because of how society works. Both of these ideas are present in society and are not

going away anytime soon.
